Heather Kahn-Pyatt

Biography

Heather is a printmaker, painter, and textile designer. Her work is anchored by her interest in patterning and motif. The compositional interplay of abstract elements: color, line and shape provide an endless language for expressing impressions about time, place and states of sensory awareness.

Heather studied painting as an undergraduate, receiving her BFA from Boston University School for the Arts, and completed her MFA from the University of Oregon’s School of Art + Design. She has spent many years designing textiles and architectural graphics, both of which have informed and inspired her studio work.

Much of Heather’s work is conceptualized as series, where an original theme or image provides the basis for an iterative, ongoing process of production and editing. She experiments with different printmaking techniques, depending upon both technical constraints, chosen materials and the inherent nature of each technique or combination of techniques.

Heather works from a home studio in Boulder, Colorado. She has taught printmaking and design at the University of Colorado, Boulder and has mentored high school students in multiple mediums of painting and drawing.

Currently, in addition to printmaking and painting, Heather is an owner and graphic designer at Ferguson Pyatt Architects.
